After numerous meetings with landowners directly impacted by the proposed pylons in our community, the Cable Plough is seen as the preferred method for laying electricity cables.
The Cable Plough is seen as an efficient, environmentally friendly and effective way of installing cables below ground.
This method has the ability to work on almost any terrain and manoeuvre around most obstacles. The flexibility of the Cable Plough enables it to bury cables around or adjacent to a variety of obstacles, such as: rocks, trees, barriers, hedges and walls. The plough cuts, installs and back-fills - all in one operation meaning that the land is reinstated considerably quicker than any other method resulting in significant less disruption to the landowner and the local community.
The most significant advantage of this process is its low-impact on the environment. The Cable Plough cuts a narrow slit into the soil causing only minimum disturbance to the land. The technique results in little damage to the ground and no structural changes to the geological formation of the earth. Reinstatement of the ground is often carried out on the same day meaning that it does not take long for the area to return to its original and natural state.
We’re fortunate in southwest Wales that we have an experienced specialist in ATP Cable Plough that undertakes this work throughout the UK and the wider continent.
As a group we are thankful to ATP for the opportunity to attend a demonstration showing the machinery in action. This demonstration was undertaken in March after one of the wettest winters on record and the cable plough made light work of burying both 132kv and 400kv cables!
